SUPPORTING, CONSULTATION ON MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND TREATMENT FOR PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS (DEAF, HARD OF HEARING, LATE DEAFENED)
On December 17, 18, 19, 2021, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing organized free medical examination and treatment sessions for people with hearing loss in order to help people with hearing loss understand about their health condition, being consulted on health care for timely treatment. Besides, people with hearing loss who wished to have legal consultation on procedure for certification of disability, procedure on Health Insurance. Issues related to rights and benefits, policies for people with hearing loss were consulted freely.
Participating in this activity were 4 doctors, 3 nurses and 7 sign-language interpreters and volunteers supporting 37 people with hearing loss in the process of testing and medical examination and treatment. All participants have fully vaccinated with 2 doses of Covid vaccine and adhered to the 5K principle. CED also supported people with hearing loss remotely online for consultation on medical examination and treatment through Zoom or Zalo video calls.
People with hearing loss shared with CED that before they did not dare to go for medical examination alone and had to go with their family members. Without supporting from their family members, it would be difficult to communicate with doctors and medical staff, especially in hospitals where there is always crowded of waiting people. They were very happy that they could join with CED. Because they have support in instruction, sign language interpretation, the doctors also knew basic sign language and had skills for supporting people with hearing loss.
