TEACHING ENGLISH FOR DEAF CHILDREN WITH CED

Do you know?

The age from 5 to 10 is considered to be the “golden time” for children to learn foreign languages. According to experts, this is the best time to develop linguistic thinking, which is clearly shown by the children's ability to memorize and imitate sounds they hear.

In Vietnam, English is considered to be the second language and it is also used for teaching at schools. English is not only an international language but also plays a crucial role in promoting children's ability to think outside the box. English uses the same Latin alphabet as Vietnamese, creating a connection between the two languages for learners. With the desire to bring equality in education to the deaf, CED decided to include English in the curriculum. However, due to limited hearing ability, deaf children face many difficulties in language acquisition.

Teaching a foreign language to deaf children is a challenging journey that requires patience from teachers and families. Understanding and sympathizing with those difficulties, CED has come up with a curriculum that is suitable for each child's ability through a combination of using pictures and lip-reading. By focusing on teaching 2 skills Reading - Writing at the same time, CED also helps children practice Listening - Speaking skills based on each child's hearing classification. This helps them feel more confident when exposed to a new language, and also creates comfort for them through lessons that are compatible with their ability. By doing that, CED spreads a meaningful message: Give them faith in themselves to make their dreams come true.
