NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and this year’s NDEAM theme "America’s Recovery: Powered by Inclusion," focuses on how persons with disabilities fuel our national recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and how employers are dealing with the challenges presented by employees experience "long-COVID".

Helen Keller Services is celebrating its second nationwide, ZOOM NDEAM event. There were participations of two speakers – one with hearing and physical disabilities is business consultant; another is DeafBlind and works as financial analysist. The event also had the representatives of companies advocating for employment and accommodation for people with disabilities; and companies hiring people with disabilities.

The event had two main contents in which speakers with disabilities shared about challenges of nurturing their career dream, efforts as well as community’s support so that that could change their circumstance to fix their dream. The last part of the event was to interview representatives of companies how to resolve around attitude challenges, advocacy for impact, equal opportunities in job offering for people with disabilities.

All thanks to Helen Keller Service for supporting and accompanying the community in its effort toward inclusion for people with disabilities.
