COMMUNITY SUPPORT: COORDINATING EDUCATION AMONG THREE ENVIRONMENTS: FAMILY – UNIVERSITY – SOCIETY
CED supported former CED students who are currently studying Computer Science and Information Technology at Ton Duc Thang University.
With students:
- Listening to students’ concerns, questions, and thoughts;
- Listening to students’ learning processes, exploration, and interactions during the first two weeks of study;
- Assessing students’ activities and resources;
- Evaluating their ability to carry out activities and utilize available resources;
- Guiding students on how to contact (channels, times, places / in-person meetings) the Faculty Office (who to ask), academic advisors, English teachers, etc.;
- Requesting permission for students to bring assistive devices that convert speech to text into the classroom.
With families:
- Listening to parents’ concerns and wishes regarding their child’s learning;
- Assessing parents’ interventions with students: positive aspects and areas that may be inappropriate;
- Collaborating to create a support plan for students.
With the university:
- Working with the Faculty’s student affairs officers and academic advisors;
- Working with the student’s English teacher.
To understand:
- What support the student receives, and the process of making support-related decisions;
- Who, what, when, and what content …are involved and can support students with hearing loss in the Faculty.
To share:
- How students communicate, how they follow lecturers in class, how they practice listening and speaking in pairs, and how to support them in listening–speaking exams (without exemption).
CED provides support services for students with hearing loss across all disciplines at universities in Ho Chi Minh City and throughout Vietnam, to ensure that they have access to quality educational environments and are not left behind.
