TRAINING HOW TO USE “THE HANDBOOK FOR ASSISTING PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS IN HOSPITALS”

In the framework of the project “Promoting the initial legal support and implementation of regulations on medical examination and treatment for people with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing and deafened)” sponsored by EU through JIFF-Oxfam Vietnam, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) invited experts for compiling the “Handbook for Assisting People with Hearing Loss in Hospitals”, wishing to facilitate effective communication between patients with hearing loss and the medical staff in order to improve their experience in hospitals as well as their treatment outcomes.

Last week, CED organized two online trainings on Zoom about how to use the “Handbook for Assisting People with Hearing Loss in Hospitals”. The first session was on Saturday afternoon November 20, 2021, for medical staffs and social workers, with 15 participants. The second session was on Sunday morning November 21, 2021, for teachers, parents and people with hearing loss (with caption and sign language interpretation).

At the training, after the project introduction by Ms. Trieu Thuy Mi, the project manager, the psychologist, MA. Nguyen Thuy Oanh presented how to use the handbook. At the final discussion, in addition to questions and answers, CED also received many precious ideas contributing from the participants, including:

- Stickers for hearing loss identification in hospitals;

- The handbook needs to have images illustrating the main content and icons, symbols for departments in hospitals;

- The handbook should have shorted version in simple language with many pictures for children and people with hearing loss;

- The handbook can be integrated into the curriculum for students with hearing loss;

- The handbook should be disseminated widely on media to reach more people with hearing loss.

CED really appreciated and was so much grateful for that!
