SHARING SESSION ON SKILLS IN COMMUNICATION WITH PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS – CONNECTION, UNDERSTANDING, AND INCLUSION
On Sunday, January 25, 2026, the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) organized a learning and sharing session on skills in communication with people with hearing loss. The session had the participation of teachers, students and volunteers with hearing loss, the Bếp Đồng Hành group, and representatives from Dai-ichi Life Vietnam Health Insurance Company.
The program aimed to help participants develop an accurate understanding of people with hearing loss and the various communication approaches used in daily life. The content was designed based on CED’s professional educational materials and combined with direct illustrations from CED’s students.

During the session, participants were introduced to the sign language alphabet, numbers, common conversational phrases in Vietnamese sign language, and practiced communicating with deaf people.
Participants also learned and practiced lip-reading skills through activities on recognizing mouth movements, vocabulary, and simple sentence structures. In addition, the program addressed key factors that influence effectiveness of communication with hard of hearing people, such as lighting, standing/sitting position, speaking speed, and the surrounding environment.

Another important focus of the session was to discuss things to avoid when communicating with people with hearing loss. This helped participants identify and adjust communication habits in daily interactions.
At the end of the session, interactive games using sign language created an open atmosphere, allowing participants to actively experience and retain the knowledge.
Through this session, CED aims to raise community awareness of inclusive communication and build a bridge between the community with hearing loss and other community groups, businesses in creating a friendly, respectful, and understanding communication environment.
