TRAINING PROGRAM: THE COURSE 77 OF SKILLS IN COMMUNICATION WITH PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS (SESSION 6)

On April 19, 2026, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh – Director of the Center for Research and Education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) – conducted a training session on Basic Sign Language, specifically the lesson "Time and Weather," for 30 participants, including 12 individuals working in the fields of Education, Healthcare, Social Work, Business, Media, and Arts, and 18 university students and high school students.

Before starting the new lesson, participants reviewed the previous lesson, "Fruits and Colors":

- Signing the verse of the poem "The Colors I Love."

- Participating in a "challenge" to translate colorful and vibrant descriptions of fruits.

- Students listened to an analysis of how to translate the two phrases "Money flows in like water, money flows out like a drop of filtered coffee" and "Siblings are like hands and feet, supporting each other through thick and thin."

Students were also asked to share some signs of the lesson "Time and Weather" that the teacher had asked them to research beforehand.

With the new lesson "Time and Weather," students:

- Listened to an analysis of the important characteristics in the formation of symbols related to time and weather.

- "Visualized" the abstract concepts of Time and Weather. Although time is intangible, through sign language, every moment becomes vivid and tangible.

- Not only limited to vocabulary, students also immersed themselves in emotionally charged sign language poems.

The Sign Language module is one of two modules within the training program on Skills in Communication with people with hearing loss (Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafened); the second module is Lip-reading.
