TRAINING PROGRAM: THE COURSE 79 OF SKILLS IN COMMUNICATION WITH PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS (SESSION 3)

On September 13, 2026, the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) held the third session of the " Skills in Communication with people with hearing loss" course online via Zoom. The session was led by Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh, Director of CED.

The class has 30 participants from diverse age groups and professional backgrounds. Among them, 16 participants are currently working in fields such as education, healthcare, social work, and customer service. In addition, the class includes 14 students majoring in Psychology and Social Work, who are receiving full scholarships from CED.

During the third session, participants learned and practiced:

- Learning new signs: Participants became familiar with and practiced signs related to family and relatives, relationships, adjectives used to describe people, and ways to ask questions about family.

- Singing in sign language: Participants learned to perform the song “We All Love Our Family”.

- Sign thinking: Participants combined letters with family-related signs to form and express words referring to family relationships, such as maternal aunt, paternal aunt by marriage, uncle, and other relatives.

Throughout the session, participants took turns practicing new signs and communicating with the instructor, focusing on topics related to family, relatives, and relationships. They also reviewed how to ask about the number of family members and practiced forming and translating sentences related to the topics covered in the session.

These practical activities help participants reinforce their sign language vocabularies, develop greater accuracy, clarity, and naturalness in their hand movements, as well as build confidence when communicating with people with hearing loss.

Sign language is one of two themes in the training program on Skills in Communication with People with Hearing Loss (Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened). The second theme is lip-reading.
