COMMUNITY SUPPORT – APP FOR SUPPORTING PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS IN COMMUNICATION
On January 13, 2023, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh - Director of the Center for Research and of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) had a consultation and sharing session with a group of students from Le Hong Phong School HCMC on issues related to sign language and sign language interpreting needs of the community using sign language (deaf/hard of hearing) to support a group of students to complete a scientific research outline with the topic "Development of software to apply artificial intelligence in assisting people with hearing loss in communication.”
Derived from the desire to support the community of people with hearing loss to have convenience in learning and daily communication, namely the exchange of information converted from sign language to speech or writing and vice versa. The idea of implementing this topic has been interested and developed by generations of students of the school over the years.
The team is currently in the process of collecting image and video data sources for their application. CED introduced the group to contact some specialized schools which have Deaf/Hard of Hearing students using sign language so that the group could collect much visual data.
