ACTIVITY REPORT – AUGUST 2020

Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED)


August 2020 was a special milestone for CED after much effort to overcome difficulties caused by the Covid pandemic. CED has expanded our space with 4 more rooms, 8 students/classroom in order to prepare for the new school year 2020 – 2021.

 

 

On 5th of August 2020, CED students had a drawing session on “COVID – 19” aimed at helping our students to learn about the Covid-19 pandemic and the necessary skills for prevention.

 

 

On 13th and 20th of August, 2020, Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh – Director of CED was invited to teach online about “Key Word Sign” for 14 Master students of HCMC Medicine and Pharmacy University and 20 students of Danang Medicine and Pharmacy University.

 

 

On 27th-28th August 2020, CED was invited to participate in the online training on “Gender mainstreaming in activities of awareness raising, legal consultation and legal support for organizations received the 2nd funding of JIFF.”

On 28th of August, 2020, Mr. Nguyen Quang Lam – Assistant to Director of CED instructed students of the Education – Vocational Orientation – Integration class to practice making milk tea and peach tea.

 

Also in this August:

CED announced the scholarship program. CED still has 4 scholarships of 50% tuition fee (equal to 1.5 million VND/month) for 1 school year at CED for students and adults with hearing loss.

Collaborating with Middlebury University, U.S.A, CED conducted the research:  “Education for students with hearing loss in special primary schools in the time of COVID-10 pandemic: Coping with Challenges and Potential Solutions.”

 

CED supported the project “Narrowing the gap between rural areas and cities by online education” through finding sponsors, giving 2 new computers and 6 used computers, 2 used laptops and 7 million VND for the project.

 

CED’s Hearing Aid Fund Report: In August 2020, CED’s Hearing Aid Fund granted 8 hearing aids for 5 kids/adults with hearing loss (4 males, 1 female) living in the poor families: 

  1. Nguyễn Vũ Tùng Anh: 1 hearing aid (Hanoi)
  2. Nguyễn Văn Thông: 2 hearing aids (Hue) (preparing to receive the devices)
  3. Bùi Phạm Trung Kiên: 2 hearing aids (Hanoi) (preparing to receive the devices)
  4. Bùi Duy Hải: 2 hearing aids (Dong Nai)
  5. Sầm Thị Linh Đa: 1 hearing aid (Hoa Binh)

 

On behalf of the children, CED respectfully thanks to the German Lions Foundation and Hear And Say for granting the hearing aids and thanks to Quang Duc Hearing Aid Service Company for installing the devices.

 

Peer Consultation/Counseling

In August, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) conducted 69 consultation/counseling cases on education, hearing aids, consultation for parents who have dificulties in teaching children with hearing loss, sign language, etc…
