DRAWING SESSION – TET’S FIVE-FRUIT TRAY

On January 5, 2023, the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) had a meaningful drawing lesson for students with hearing loss.

The topic of the preparatory class was: Tet’s Five-fruit tray. This is a topic that is very close to the life of almost all Vietnamese citizens during Tet when spring coming. In particular, the display of the five-fruit tray for ancestor worship is very solemn and necessary to mark the end of an old year, and the smooth beginning of a new year.

At first, teacher showed the students a drawing that she had drawn. Through close and detailed observation, she could guide the basic lines for students to shape and adjust the size to fit the A4 paper. Due to the one-on-one guidance, she could talk directly with the students about the identification of the fruit images that would be displayed on the five-fruit tray. Then, the teacher would ask them to expand their knowledge such as whether they eat Banh Tet or Banh Chung at home. If the answer was banh tet, she instructed the student to draw a long cylinder to create the shape of Banh Tet, or a rectangle in the shape of banh chung.

In order to create a Tet atmosphere in the display of the five-fruit tray, she instructed the students to draw more apricot blossoms, and colourful fireworks.
