TRAINING PROGRAM: THE COURSE 79 OF SKILLS IN COMMUNICATION WITH PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS (SESSION 2)

On September 13, 2026, the Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) held the second session of the " Skills in Communication with people with hearing loss" course online via Zoom. The session was led by Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh, Director of CED.

The class comprised 25 participants from diverse age groups and professional backgrounds. Among them were 16 professionals working in essential sectors such as education, healthcare, social work, and customer service, alongside 09 students majoring in psychology and social work. These students had received full scholarships from CED with the aim of raising awareness and applying the skills they learned to their studies and future community service work.

During the second session, participants were guided through the following:

- Learning new signs: becoming familiar with and practicing signs for natural numbers, number combinations, and complex or large numbers, such as one million and one billion.

- Learning how to present mathematical calculations.

- Learning to sign a song: "Learning to Count" (Tập đếm).

- Spatial signing concepts: left, right, up, down, front, back, inside, outside, here, there, far, and near.

Throughout the session, participants took turns practicing signs and communicating with the instructor. They also reviewed how to introduce themselves, sharing their names and ages, and asked about each other's well-being. This provided an opportunity to practice using their hands correctly, clearly, and appropriately when communicating with deaf individuals.

Sign language is one of two themes in the training program on Skills in Communication with People with Hearing Loss (Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened). The second theme is lip-reading.
