“THE BIRTH OF THE TRANSPARENT MASK IN COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOS”

The image of the masks covering up our faces in the context of pandemic COVID-19 is currently creating a big inconvenience for people with hearing loss. Lips reading for understanding is an important communication way for them. Understanding these difficulties, Center for Research and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CED) designed a tool supporting communication for people with hearing loss, called “TRANSPARENT MASKS” – made with cloth and a transparent plastic sheet in the middle, showing the lips of users. An important thing is that the masks can be washed and reused many times.

The birth of the transparent masks not only support the right need of people with hearing loss but also show the care and sharing of others with the difficulties that people with hearing loss are encounting. CED wishes that this message will be welcome and support by people all over Vietnam, so that the social inclusion pathway of people with hearing loss is not limited and become easier.
